This is a superb box! Jon Land has outdone himself! Dead Simple it like riding a thrill ride in an amusement park...It DEFINITLY is a "can't put it down" read..I sure am glad he's still turning out the McCraken books with the entire cast will intact!! I forwarded this on to my 83 yr old father in Oregon who told me "Hey, this book should be made into a movie!" Jon Land is simply the BEST!! Mr.Land keeps up the traditon of a established author by keeping us entertained with favorite characters with a story that starts out great and keeps you reading until the predictable end, which while not leaving you disappointed, does leave you a little flat on the story. Hopefully Mr. Lands next story will combine the characters of "Dead Simple" and "The Walls of Jericho" into a true story of international suspense. To those who read the reviews Mr Land does pay attention to his readers
This was a very good book written by Land. The book starts with Blaine McCracken being wounded severely by a terrorist. He has to go to Florida to recover from his wounds. He is ran through a recovery program by his old sergeant. In the meantime "Jackie Terror" and his gang of psychos has hilacked a truckfull of Devil's Brew(A dangerous explosive).Blaine's old sergeaent has to leave and go help his daughter and is promptly Kidnapped.The bad guys.led by Jackie Terror and his gang also a[[ear. McCracken gathers his old troops(7 foot tall Johnny Wareagle) in order to do battle with Jackie Terror and his gang.This book is action packed from beginning to end. You will find it hard to put down. Another good book from Jon Land.
I'm clearly in the minority here, and this was a tough one to rate simply because through most of the book it was looking like a 4 or maybe 5 star book. It was interesting, there were different story lines going on, and it was like a puzzle trying to figure out how they all linked together. I was really enjoying it. But the last 10-15% was just action-packed good guys vs. bad guys violence, beyond being even slightly believable. Suddenly it felt like a 10-year old boy who had seen too many Die Hard movies was writing a script, regardless of how outrageous his ideas were. The stories got lost, and in the end I think there were still a lot of loose ends. I don't mean loose ends in the sense that they have to tie everything up - I understand this is a series - but in terms of not explaining certain things in THIS story that were important. This was my first Blaine McCracken novel, and I don't think it hurt to pick up in the middle. The author did a good job of filling in the back story. I also think I would try another, in case it didn't fall apart like this one did. But if it ends with me picturing Jack Bauer meeting Sly Stallone and Bruce Willis (yes, I get that I mixed characters with actors, but you get the picture....) then the next will be my last. It's too much of a tease to start out so strong and then just blow everything up.
I enjoy his books.
Slow start. Struggle to read. Didn't take off until half way thru. Have enjoyed his other books
This author just takes your breath away with his books. They could have been written today, as he doesn't include many technical items so that they are a great and fun read.
